Introducing Adeah-Isabella Reitsma
Get to know us! We’re reintroducing ourselves – from our contributors to our co-founder and CEO!
Name: Adeah-Isabella Reitsma
Job Title: Poetry Editor and Head Barista/Tea Mixologist
Hometown: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
School/Programme: I studied at the University of Toronto, but am currently taking some prerequisite courses for a Plant Science programme!
Go-to karaoke song: ’m a sucker for some classic 80s, and it's hard for me to pick just one! My top songs would have to be “Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks or “Like a Prayer” by Madonna.
Best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn: Maybe not the best, but definitely the most memorable – a large orange trash bag with arm and neck holes cut out, complete with a sharpie-drawn pumpkin face. I was 10 years old. Cool and fun options are somewhat limited when it's -40 Celsius outside and you have to fit your costume over your snow gear… but you gotta do what you gotta do to get that candy.
How are you embracing the real you?: I feel like the “real” me has changed so much over the years, both in good and bad ways. I'm trying to be as honest and open as I can in my daily life, which includes sharing my passions as well as my struggles. Embracing myself means accepting my flaws, celebrating my good qualities, and forgiving myself for my mistakes and shortcomings. My setbacks have made me who I am today; they’ve taught me that I am resilient and patient, and that I am a capable person - the real me is all of those things and so much more!
