Music: 3 Minute Therapy

Music therapy is an intensive process involving listening to music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Music is a very valuable tool as it has nonverbal, creative, structural, and emotional qualities.

Music therapy can be super expensive, but you can mimic its effects at home. Listening to a certain genre of music, or even a specific song, when you’re feeling a particular emotion can be very therapeutic. It can alleviate the intensity of the emotion, alter your mindset or change your perspective on current events.

Here’s a (starter) list of songs to listen to when you’re feeling:

  • I am the Fire by Halestorm (Rock)

  • Follow your Arrow by Kacey Musgraves (Country)

  • Firework by Katy Perry (Pop)

  • Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park (Alternative)

  • Stronger by Kelly Clarkson (Pop)

  • Love Myself by Hailee Steinfeld (Pop)
